The escape room age limit at Questrooms is a recommendation, not a hard rule, for every game except the two horror rooms. Children from 8 have their own games, and younger children may join their parents. A parent asked the chat: "It says Russian Mafia is difficulty five, but at the same time it is from 12 years. How does that work?" This guide explains what the age on each game card means, lists every game and sets out the rules that are fixed.
How old do you have to be to play an escape room in Stockholm?
At Questrooms in Stockholm, the youngest games start at age 8, and children aged 4 to 7 may join a game with their parents and older children. The age on each card is a recommendation. The exception is Horror Escape and Horror Escape TEENS: nobody under 13 plays them, with or without an adult.
So the honest answer depends on the game. A 9-year-old can play Time Travellers on their own team with one adult, or join the family in a 10+ VR game on the parents' responsibility. Pick a game in the booking calendar and write the ages in the comment.
What does the age on the game card mean?
The age on a Questrooms game card is a recommendation based on experience of how fun and how difficult the game is for that age. The difficulty is a separate scale: the lock icons on each card, from 1 for the easiest to 5 for the hardest. A game can be fine for 12-year-olds and still be hard.
That answers the question about Russian Mafia. The age, 12+, says the story and the puzzles suit players from 12. The five locks say the puzzles are the hardest among the classic rooms. A team of 12-year-olds can play Russian Mafia, but new players do best with at least 3 people. For children under 13 who want a classic room, Time Travellers, at difficulty 2, is the better start.

The table lists the age on each card, grouped by age. Every age is a recommendation except the two horror rooms, which are never open to children under 13.

Which age rules are fixed?
Two rules at Questrooms are fixed. Nobody under 13 plays Horror Escape or Horror Escape TEENS. And Horror Escape, the adult version, is recommended from 18: players aged 13 to 17 can play it if at least one person in the team is 18 or older. The group decides for itself.
- Horror Escape: 18+ is the recommendation for the full experience, with a live actor and partial darkness. Teens aged 13 to 17 play with at least one adult aged 18+ in the team.
- Horror Escape TEENS: made for ages 13 to 17, with no actor, more light and a lower sound level, but still one jump scare. Adults may join the teens, and an adult in the team must be 18+.
- Teens without an adult: Horror Escape TEENS is possible if a parent of one of the teens emails hello@questrooms.se with written approval and takes responsibility for the group.
When does a child need an adult?
Children under 13 need at least one adult inside the room at Questrooms. Children under 18 need at least one responsible adult on site, who can wait in the reception and does not pay. An adult who goes into the room only to accompany children counts as a player and pays the normal price.
Most parents therefore play along, which Questrooms recommends because it is more fun. Teachers and staff who accompany a large group of students play for free. For Time Travellers at a kids' party, a hired Entertainer can guide the children instead of a parent.
How is age counted?
Questrooms counts age by calendar year. A child who turns 13 later this year counts as 13 already, so a 12-year-old who turns 13 this year can play Horror Escape TEENS. There is no ID check for teenagers. An ID is only needed for the birthday discount, where the birthday person gets 20% off on request.
Can younger children play?
Yes. Children younger than the age on the card may play together with their parents and older siblings, on the parents' responsibility, because the family knows the child best. Children aged 4 to 7 may join a game with their parents and older children. The outdoor game Magic Portal suits children from about 7 to 8 with adults.
This flexibility never applies to the horror rooms. Players with autism or other special needs are welcome, and Time Travellers or Jungle Quest VR are calm choices, played together with an adult.
FAQ
Can a 12-year-old play Horror Escape TEENS?
Yes, if the child turns 13 during the current calendar year, because Questrooms counts age by calendar year. A child who turns 13 next year cannot play either horror room yet. There is no ID check for teenagers. Horror Escape TEENS takes 3 to 6 players aged 13 to 17, and any adult in the team must be 18+.
Can a 9-year-old play a VR game marked 10+?
Yes, together with parents. The age on each Questrooms game card is a recommendation, and children may play with their parents and older siblings on the parents' responsibility. Children under 13 need an adult in the room. Smash Point KIDS VR starts at age 8, if you prefer a game made for that age.
Does the adult who waits outside pay?
No. An adult who waits in the reception while teenagers aged 13 to 17 play does not pay. An adult who goes into the room to accompany children counts as a player and pays the normal price per person. Children under 13 always need an adult inside the room, so for them one adult plays along.
Do teenagers need ID at Questrooms?
No. Questrooms does not check ID for teenagers, and age is counted by calendar year. An ID is only needed for the birthday discount, where the birthday person shows an ID with the date of birth to get 20% off on request. Players aged 8 to 17 get 15% off without showing anything.
