Backrooms in real life: the closest feeling in Stockholm

Questrooms has no Backrooms room. These games share its feel: dark zones in a Södermalm basement, an abandoned clinic in VR and endless worlds.

Questrooms does not have a Backrooms room, and no game at Questrooms is based on the Backrooms. If you want the Backrooms in real life, a few games in Stockholm share parts of the feeling: Horror Escape takes your team through dark zones in a basement on Södermalm, House of Fear 2 VR puts you in an abandoned clinic, and Escape the Worlds sends you through one door into one strange world after another. This guide explains what each game has in common with the Backrooms, and what it does not.

What are the Backrooms?

The Backrooms started as an internet horror story about endless, empty rooms that feel familiar and wrong at the same time. Director Kane Parsons turned it into a web series and then into the A24 film Backrooms, released in the US on 29 May 2026. The film has earned USD 402.5 million worldwide.

According to Wikipedia, that figure (as of 20 September 2026) makes Backrooms A24's highest-grossing film. In the film, a furniture store owner and his therapist find a dimension of endless liminal spaces through the store's basement. A liminal space is a place between places, such as an empty corridor or a waiting room at night, that feels unsettling because nobody is there.

Is there a Backrooms escape room in Stockholm?

Questrooms has no Backrooms escape room, and this guide does not claim one. What Questrooms has are horror and mystery games that use some of the same ingredients: a place you do not know, partial darkness, a feeling that something is wrong, and a way out your team has to find within 60 minutes.

The closest classic room is Horror Escape. The venue itself is a basement at Kocksgatan 21A, and in Horror Escape your team moves through several zones in partial darkness, with one jump scare. The story is Questrooms' own: you must outsmart a maniac and escape. For groups of 7 to 10 who want to play the same VR game, the BACK-TO-BACK format links the two VR rooms.

Which Questrooms games come closest to the Backrooms feeling?

Five games at Questrooms share parts of the Backrooms feeling. Horror Escape has dark zones in a basement. House of Fear 2 VR is set in an abandoned psychiatric clinic, and Sanctum VR in a haunted monastery. Escape the Worlds and Survival VR, which are not scary, drop your team somewhere unknown.

Game Format Age What feels liminal Scary
Horror Escape Classic room 18+ recommended, 13 to 17 with an adult Several zones in partial darkness, below street level Yes, live actor (no contact)
House of Fear 2 VR VR, 2 to 4 players 13+ An abandoned psychiatric clinic Yes
Sanctum VR VR, 2 to 6 players 12+ A haunted monastery tied to dark rituals and disappearances Yes
Escape the Worlds VR, 2 to 6 players 12+ One door, many unexpected realities No
Survival VR VR, 2 to 6 players 10+ Stranded on a deserted island after a crash No

House of Fear 2 VR is the closest to the empty-building feeling: a horror investigation inside an abandoned clinic, for 2 to 4 players. Sanctum VR adds the supernatural. Escape the Worlds is the pick for a group that likes the idea of endless rooms but not the fear: each world has its own puzzles.

What is different from the Backrooms?

At Questrooms there is always a way out. Every game is an escape game with puzzles and a 60-minute clock, a game master follows your team on camera, and you can ask for a hint whenever you are stuck. In an emergency all locks open automatically, and when time runs out you simply leave the room.

The VR games are not walking simulators. Questrooms has no VR experience where you only wander and look around: every VR game is a puzzle game. You sit or stand during the whole game and move your avatar with the controllers, so you do not walk around the physical room. All players see and hear each other in the game and must cooperate.

  • No endless wandering: every game has a goal and an exit.
  • No stranger in the dark: the only live person is the actor in Horror Escape, for a short interaction with no physical contact. Write "light version" in the booking comment to play without the actor.
  • No recording: cameras are for live monitoring only.

Backrooms in real life: how to plan the night

Pick the game by how much fear your group wants. For real horror, choose Horror Escape or House of Fear 2 VR. For the strange-worlds feeling without fear, choose Escape the Worlds. A group of 3 to 6 fits one game. A group of 7 to 10 can split into a horror room and a VR game at the same time, or play one VR game together with BACK-TO-BACK.

The price is the same for every game and depends on the number of players: 409 SEK per person for 2 players, down to 369 SEK per person for 6. You pay on site after the game, by card or Swish. Plan about 1.5 hours for the visit, including the briefing. All VR games are listed on the VR escape rooms page.

FAQ

Is there a Backrooms escape room in Stockholm?

The games that share parts of the feeling are Horror Escape, with dark zones in a basement on Södermalm, House of Fear 2 VR in an abandoned clinic, Sanctum VR in a haunted monastery, and Escape the Worlds.

Which game feels most like the Backrooms film?

House of Fear 2 VR comes closest to the empty-building feeling: a horror investigation in an abandoned psychiatric clinic, for 2 to 4 players aged 13 and up. For a physical setting, Horror Escape takes your team through several zones in partial darkness. Neither game is based on the Backrooms, and both are puzzle games.

Do you walk around in the VR horror games?

No. In the VR games at Questrooms you sit or stand during the whole game and move your avatar with the controllers, by teleporting short or long distances. You do not walk around the physical room. All players see and hear each other inside the game, and every VR game is a puzzle game, not a walking tour.

Is there a non-scary game with the same strange feeling?

Yes. Escape the Worlds is not scary: a single door leads your team into one unexpected world after another, each with its own puzzles. It suits ages 12 and up, at difficulty 4 of 5, for 2 to 6 players. In BACK-TO-BACK co-op mode up to 8 players can join the same game.
