If you get stuck in an escape room at Questrooms, you ask for a clue, and the game master who follows your team on camera gives you one. You decide how many hints you want. If the 60 minutes run out before you finish, nothing bad happens: you leave the room, and the game master goes through the game with you. This guide explains how clues work, what happens when time is up, and why nobody is ever really locked in.
What happens if you get stuck in an escape room?
You ask for help. At Questrooms a game master follows every team on camera during the game and gives a hint when your team asks for one. There is no limit set by the venue: it is up to your team how many hints you take. A hint is there to get your team moving again.
Getting stuck is a normal part of the game. Every room is built so that a team has to search, combine objects and share information to make progress, so a pause on one puzzle is expected, not a failure.
How do clues work in a classic room and in VR?
In a classic escape room you ask the game master for a hint during the game, and the game master answers. In a VR escape room each game has its own hint system: some have a hint station inside the game, others give you a direct line to the game master. In both formats you ask whenever you need.
Before the game the game master explains the rules and answers your questions, without revealing anything about the puzzles. That briefing is the moment to ask how hints work in the game you booked. Arrive 15 minutes before the time you picked in the booking calendar, so the briefing does not eat into your 60 minutes.
- Classic rooms: such as Time Travellers or Russian Mafia. The game master follows the room on camera.
- VR rooms: such as Mission Sigma VR. Players see and hear each other in the game, and the hint system is built into it. See all VR escape rooms.
What happens if the 60 minutes run out?
Nothing bad. When the time runs out before your team finishes, you leave the room, or take off the VR headset, and the game master goes through the game with you. You talk the game through together, including the parts you did not reach. There is no penalty for not escaping in time.
Late arrival can shorten the game. A delay of 10 to 15 minutes usually does not affect your game time much, but longer delays may cut into it because the schedule is tight.
Can you really get locked in an escape room?
No. Every room at Questrooms has surveillance cameras for live monitoring, and in an emergency all locks open automatically. Nobody is tied up or chained at the start of any game. The cameras are for monitoring only: games are not recorded and not shown on a screen.
If one player wants to leave the room during the game, tell the game master. By the rules the whole game stops when one player leaves, but the game master sometimes makes an exception.

Tips for your first escape room
A first escape room goes better when the team talks. These habits help a first-time group at Questrooms:
- Say out loud what you find: a number, a symbol or a key means more when the whole team knows about it.
- Ask for a hint early: ten minutes on one lock is a good moment to ask.
- Never use force: puzzles open with the right answer, not with strength. Intentional damage, such as pulling wires, is charged to the guest.
- Leave bags in the lockers: free hands help, and the venue has lockers for valuables and backpacks.
- Pick a game that fits: for a first game, Horror Escape, Time Travellers, Jungle Quest VR and Mission Sigma VR work well for beginners.
FAQ
Do you get unlimited hints in an escape room?
At Questrooms your team decides how many hints to take. The game master follows the game on camera and gives a hint whenever you ask. In VR escape rooms each game has its own hint system, either a hint station inside the game or a direct line to the game master. Ask as soon as your team feels stuck.
What if we don't escape in time?
Nothing bad happens. When the 60 minutes run out, you leave the room or take off the VR headset, and the game master goes through the game with you, including the parts you did not reach. There is no penalty for not finishing. You pay on site after the game, by card or Swish.
Can you leave an escape room in the middle of the game?
Yes. Tell the game master, who follows the team on camera. By the rules the whole game stops when one player leaves the room, but the game master sometimes makes an exception. In an emergency all locks at Questrooms open automatically, and nobody is ever tied up or chained in any game.
Is an escape room hard for first-timers?
No. You need no special knowledge, only logic and teamwork, and the game master gives hints when you ask. At Questrooms the lock icons on each game card show difficulty from 1 to 5. Horror Escape, Time Travellers, Jungle Quest VR and Mission Sigma VR work well for a first game.
