How scary is Horror Escape? An honest guide

Horror Escape at Questrooms has one live actor, no physical contact, a jump scare and partial darkness. Here is how to make it milder.

How scary is Horror Escape? Scary enough to make most groups jump, controlled enough for first-timers. The classic room at Questrooms on Södermalm has one live actor for a short interaction with no physical contact, one jump scare, partial darkness and no very loud sounds. You can ask for a milder game, or book the light version without the actor. This guide explains what to expect, without spoiling the puzzles.

Is there a live actor in Horror Escape?

Yes. Horror Escape has one live actor for a short interaction, and the actor never touches the players. The actor adds atmosphere to the story, nothing more. If your group prefers to play without the actor, write "light version" in the booking comment and the game runs without the live part.

The actor is the reason many groups book Horror Escape and the reason some hesitate. Both are fine. The light version keeps the story, the rooms and the puzzles, so a group that skips the actor still plays the full game.

What makes Horror Escape scary?

Horror Escape gets its fear from atmosphere, not from difficulty. Your team moves through several zones in partial darkness, meets one jump scare and one short live interaction, and has 60 minutes to outsmart a maniac and escape. The sound stays below very loud levels, and the puzzles sit at difficulty 3 of 5.

The story has no link to the Saw films, which groups often ask about. The fear comes from the setting: a dark space, the sense that someone else is in the game, and a clock that keeps running. A game master follows your team on camera the whole time and gives clues when you ask for them.

Can you make Horror Escape less scary?

Yes, in two ways. Write "light version" in the booking comment to play without the live actor, or ask the game master on site for a milder game. The same request works the other way: groups who want more fear can ask the game master to make Horror Escape scarier before the game starts.

For teenagers there is a separate version. Horror Escape TEENS tells the same story for players aged 13 to 17, with no actor, more light and a lower sound level. It still has a jump scare, so it is not a children's game, but it is a softer start for a group that is unsure.

Who is Horror Escape for?

Horror Escape is made for adults, 18 and up, and takes 3 to 6 players. Two players can also play, at 511 SEK per person. It also works for first-timers: the puzzles are moderate and the fear comes from the setting. Players who are heavily pregnant should choose another game.

To book for two, choose 3 players in the calendar and write "2 players" in the comment, or email hello@questrooms.se. For 3 to 6 players the standard per-person price applies, from 399 SEK for 3 players to 369 SEK for 6.

Game Age Format Live actor Fear level
Horror Escape 18+ Classic room Yes, short, no contact Highest of the four
Horror Escape TEENS 13 to 17 Classic room No Milder, still a jump scare
House of Fear 2 VR 13+ VR No Scary, in a headset
Sanctum VR 12+ VR No Scary, in a headset

If someone in your group would rather see the fear through a headset than meet it in a room, House of Fear 2 VR is the closest alternative.

What should you wear in Horror Escape?

Wear casual clothes you do not mind getting a little dusty, and avoid all-white outfits. Horror Escape is the only room at Questrooms where you keep your shoes on, so wear comfortable ones. Leave bags and valuables in the lockers at the venue before the game, so your hands stay free for the puzzles.

FAQ

Does the actor in Horror Escape touch the players?

No. The live actor in Horror Escape has a short interaction with the team and never makes physical contact. The actor is there for atmosphere. If your group wants to avoid the actor completely, write "light version" in the booking comment, and the game runs with the same story and puzzles but without the live part.

Is Horror Escape based on the Saw films?

No. Horror Escape has its own story: your team must outsmart a maniac and escape within 60 minutes. It has no connection to the Saw films. The fear comes from partial darkness, several zones, one jump scare and a short live interaction, not from gore or from very loud sounds.

Can two people play Horror Escape?

Yes. Horror Escape normally needs 3 players, but two players can play for 511 SEK per person. Choose 3 players in the booking calendar and write "2 players" in the comment, or email hello@questrooms.se. Teams of 3 to 6 pay the standard per-person price, from 399 SEK to 369 SEK.

How hard are the puzzles in Horror Escape?

The puzzles in Horror Escape have difficulty 3 of 5, so a first-time team can solve them. The challenge comes from solving them in partial darkness and under pressure. A game master follows the team throughout the 60 minutes and gives clues whenever you ask, so no group gets stuck for long.
