Stockholm Film Festival 2026 runs from 11 to 22 November, and the gaps between screenings are long enough for one more story, this time one you play. At Questrooms on Södermalm a VR escape room takes about 1.5 hours from arrival to exit, and several games are built like films: a falling space station, a cyberpunk heist, a haunted clinic. This guide pairs film genres with games, and covers timing, prices and evening hours.
When is Stockholm Film Festival 2026?
Stockholm International Film Festival 2026 runs from Wednesday 11 to Sunday 22 November, according to Visit Stockholm. The festival started in 1990 and is held every year in the second half of November. The winner of its international competition receives the Bronze Horse, which at 7.3 kg is called the heaviest film award in the world.
Since 2023 the festival has owned the Skandia cinema, opened in 1923 and described by Visit Stockholm as one of the city's most beautiful cinemas. The festival's own programme lists which cinema shows each film, so check it before you plan the evening.
What can you do in Stockholm between film festival screenings?
Between film festival screenings in Stockholm you can play a VR escape room that tells its own story. At Questrooms on Södermalm, 2 to 6 players wear headsets and solve a 60-minute mission together, with genres from science fiction to horror. A visit takes about 1.5 hours, which fits between an afternoon and an evening screening.
The difference from a film is that the team drives the plot. Every player sees and hears the others inside the game, and the puzzles only open when you work together. A game master briefs you before the start, follows the game on live cameras and gives hints if you ask. We only record a game if the team says yes. Free start times are in the booking calendar.
Which games match which films?
Match the game to the genre you came to the festival for. Sci-fi fans pick Signal Lost VR or Cyberpunk VR, horror fans pick House of Fear 2 VR or the classic room Horror Escape, and anyone who likes an action film with a puzzle in it picks Dream Hackers VR: The Book of Memories.
| If you came for | Play | Format | Age | Players |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Science fiction | Signal Lost VR: save a research station falling out of orbit | VR | 10+ | 2 to 6 |
| Dystopian thrillers | Cyberpunk VR: steal data from a guarded archive | VR | 13+ | 2 to 6 |
| Horror | House of Fear 2 VR: investigate an abandoned psychiatric clinic | VR | 13+ | 2 to 4 |
| Horror, in a real room | Horror Escape: outsmart a maniac, with a live actor | Classic room | 18+ recommended | 3 to 6 |
| Action | Dream Hackers VR: The Book of Memories: fight nightmares in a shared dream | VR | 13+ | 2 to 6 |
In Signal Lost VR the connection to the orbital station Asgard has gone silent, and your team enters as robotic engineers. In Cyberpunk VR the team plays cyborgs sent to steal data from a ruthless corporation. All 16 titles are on the VR escape rooms page.
How to fit a game between two screenings
Arrive at Kocksgatan 21A 15 minutes before the booked time for the briefing. The game lasts 60 minutes, and payment and a short debrief take another 5 to 10 minutes. Count on 1.5 hours in total, then add the trip to the next cinema. Questrooms is a few minutes' walk from Medborgarplatsen station on the green metro line.
Last game starts at Questrooms during the festival:
- Monday to Thursday: 21:00
- Friday and Saturday: 22:30
- Sunday: 19:30
A late game after the last screening of the day works on Fridays and Saturdays. On other days, play between an afternoon and an evening film. Online booking closes 3 hours before each start, and times for each game are in the booking calendar.
FAQ
Can two people play a VR escape room after a film?
Yes. Every VR game at Questrooms is open to a team of 2, and two players pay 409 SEK each. House of Fear 2 VR and Mission Sigma VR are the two games the Questrooms team suggests for a date. Book a time in the calendar, and write "English" in the comment if you prefer English.
Is House of Fear 2 VR very scary?
House of Fear 2 VR is a horror investigation in an abandoned psychiatric clinic, recommended from 13 years and for 2 to 4 players. It is scary by design, rated 3 out of 5 for difficulty. If you want sci-fi tension without horror, choose Signal Lost VR or Cyberpunk VR, which are not scary.
How much does a VR escape room cost?
A VR escape room at Questrooms costs 369 to 409 SEK per person, depending on how many players share the room: 409 SEK each for 2 players, 389 SEK each for 4 and 369 SEK each for 6. The price is the same for every game. You pay on site after the game, by card or Swish.
Do we need to know VR before we play?
No. The game master explains the controls before the game starts. You move by teleporting with the controllers, so you can sit or stand for the whole game, and the headsets fit over most glasses. In rare cases a player feels slightly dizzy, and it passes when the headset comes off.
