VR team building means colleagues playing together in virtual reality, in the same physical room but in a digital world. Is it the corporate event of the future? That depends on the team. This guide covers how VR team building works, when it suits you better than a classic escape room, when it suits you less, and how to set it up for different group sizes.
How does VR team building work?
The team gets headsets and hand controllers and steps into a mission: a space station falling out of orbit, a frozen castle or a deserted island. Everyone stands in the same room and sees each other as characters in the game. The puzzles are solved by talking, pointing and sharing information. At Questrooms we use Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3s, and no VR experience is needed: the game master goes through the equipment before you start.
When does VR work well?
- When everyone should start at the same level. Nobody in the team has an advantage, because the environment is new to all.
- When you want to go places that cannot be built. Signal Lost VR takes you to a space station, Frozen Castle VR to a castle frozen in time.
- When 7–10 people want to be in the same game. With BACK-TO-BACK, our two VR rooms connect: up to 8 players in co-op, or up to 10 in two competing teams.
- When someone uses a wheelchair. All VR experiences are accessible. Tell us in advance about the stairs.
When does something else work better?
- When the team wants to touch things. A classic escape room like Russian Mafia has real locks and objects.
- When you want to be outside. Operation Mindfall is an AR mission on the streets of SoFo.
- When the whole company should play at once. Quest-to-Go takes 19–500 people at your own location.

What happens in the team during the game?
In VR you cannot point at a detail the way you can in a physical room. You have to describe what you see and where. The format creates situations where participants need to communicate, prioritise and make decisions together. That describes how the game works, not a promise about what the team becomes afterwards.

Frequently asked questions
What is VR team building? VR team building is a team activity where colleagues play together in virtual reality. At Questrooms on Södermalm, the team stands in the same room with headsets and solves a mission in 60 minutes. No VR experience is needed.
How many people can play VR at the same time? One VR game takes 2–6 players. With BACK-TO-BACK, up to 8 players can join the same co-op session, or up to 10 can play in two competing teams.
Is VR better than a classic escape room for team building? Not always. VR suits teams who should start at the same level or who want to go places that cannot be built. A classic room suits teams who want to touch things. Larger groups can combine both.
Can you play VR with glasses? Yes. The headsets fit over most glasses. If your frames are very large, you can play without them and we adjust the lenses.
